Thanks to the ASRock TRX50 extended ATX motherboard, there’s plenty of space for hardware to suit just about any need. With your choice of the latest AMD Threadripper CPU technology, the S790 can accommodate between 24 and 96 CPU cores, with twice the threads across the board.

While this system is aimed at GPU-heavy tasks, and so comes with 64GB of RAM by default, it’s easy to upgrade this to a terabyte of memory. This means the S790 can work just as well doing CPU-bound tasks if you fit it with the right CPU and RAM setup.

But, the GPU possibilities are what we’re all here for. By default, the S790 comes with a 12GB INTEL Arc A580, which is a solid all-round choice for general 3D graphics duties, and using this card with the other base level components in the S790 will give you a potent all-round workstation.

However, using the dual-graphics set options in the configurator, you can have up to three liquid-cooled high-end GPU cards of your choice. Of course, if you opt for that many high-end cards, then you’ll also want to swap the base 1000W PSU for a single 2800W model, or a dual 1600W unit.

While this workstation ships with a single 1TB high-speed SSD by default, there’s enormous room for expansion. Up to six M.2 SSDs at capacities up to 8TB can be installed, and up to eight SATA drives. Various RAID configurations are also possible to improve redundancy, speed, or both.

The standard Intel dual 10Gbps network adapter should be enough for most, but there are several high-speed alternatives for situations where the server will continuously draw data from network sources in time-critical workloads.
