Recommended Hardware for SIMULIA Abaqus
CPU (Processor)


Abaqus workflows vary: pre-processing and post-processing benefit from high single-core speeds, while solving (especially explicit/implicit solvers) scales across many cores. Industry guidance recommends balancing clock speed and core count.

- For general simulation: 8-16 core high-clock CPUs (e.g., Intel Core Ultra 9 / AMD Ryzen 9)
- For heavy production: Workstation CPUs (Intel Xeon W / AMD Threadripper PRO) with 24-64 cores
- For maximum throughput: Dual-socket systems supporting >64 cores


Graphics (GPU)

While CPU remains dominant, Abaqus supports GPU acceleration for specific solvers (implicit, eigensolvers) if a compatible NVIDIA GPU (double precision) is present.

- Recommended: NVIDIA RTX A5000 / A6000 series (large VRAM, professional reliability)
- Mid-range: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 with suitable drivers may suffice for non-certified workflows

Note: Confirm solver GPU support and FP64 capabilities before relying on GPU acceleration


Memory (RAM)

Large simulations consume significant memory. Insufficient RAM leads to paging and dramatic slowdowns.

- Recommended: 64 GB minimum
- For heavy workflows: 128-256 GB+ ECC memory preferred for long unattended runs


Storage (Drive Configuration)

Fast I/O helps with reading large result files, writing output, and caching simulation data.

- Primary drive: 1 TB NVMe SSD (OS + Abaqus)
- Secondary drive: 2 TB+ NVMe for project data & results
- Archive: High-capacity HDD or NAS for storing finished simulations
