Rhino3D is a trusted and well-respected CG and CAD package that many of our clients love to use. As a free form surface modelling tool Rhino provides a flexible, powerful solution to create top-class models useful in several industries.

One of Rhino3Ds strengths come the many specialized 1st-party 3rd-party plugins that let the software do specific tasks associated with certain industries. Thanks to this Rhino has found a place in rendering, animation, marine engineering, jewelry design, rapid prototyping and architecture.

Rhino is also highly compatible with support for more than 30 CAD file formats, while being precise enough for manufacturing.

In the end however, what really makes Rhino3D so attractive is the fact that the software is easy to learn, affordable and does not require a billionaire's computer in order to work properly. That being said, let us have a look at the sort of hardware you will need to have in order to make use of this software.

RECOMMENDED HARDWARE FOR RHINO 3D:
One of the biggest changes that we have to take account of in the latest version of Rhino is that the application is now a 64-bit executable. What this means is that the software can access for more RAM than just the 4GB that 32-bit systems support.

The only reason you would have to run the 32-bit version of the software is if there is a plugin you need that has not yet been updated, but at this point these are pretty rare.

The working minimum amount of RAM we recommend is therefore 8GB, which is what the typical office machine would be equipped with these days. In practice, since RAM is so cheap you should opt for more, especially if any sort of multitasking is going to take place. Professional computers should have no less than 16GB of RAM in our opinion.

Rhino themselves recommend at least a Core i5 quad core, which is fair. However, we have noticed that when used solely for modelling and not rendering Rhino only uses a single thread. So single-core performance matters very much. If you are only going to use Rhino for modelling we recommend you get a CPU with the highest clock speed you can afford, even if it has fewer cores.

If the workstation has to do double duty, you also need to keep multi-threading performance in min. A balance of core number and speed then becomes important.

Rhino has no special storage requirements other than at least 500GB of space. We would recommend that your system uses an SSD, since all software benefits from the increased transfer rates.

The graphics card requirements are rather broad, only asking for an OpenGL compatible GPU. This includes all modern GPUs, but in our experience the best choice is a card from the Nvidia Quadro range. These have the highest reliability and software compatibility with Rhino and we never get any complaints about this combination for either modelling or rendering.
